Peter Baldwin is a Sydney-based illustrator and primary school teacher with a lifelong passion for drawing. He is a natural creative, and over the years, his work has evolved into a diverse portfolio of children’s books, educational resources, and commercial art.
Peter's illustrations have been published in a number of books, including Granbad with UQP, the Maxi the Lifeguard series with Affirm Press, and the TC series with Scholastic. His illustration work also spans posters, comic strips, character designs, pamphlets, logos, and educational resources for clients such as Little Fox Inc., The Australian Museum, Educational Assessment Australia, and the New South Wales Department of Education.
Before venturing into the world of illustration, Peter began his career in the sciences, working in wildlife conservation education at The Australian Museum and Taronga Zoo. These experiences gave him a deep connection to the natural world, which continues to influence his artwork and his dedication to environmental conservation.
In 2019, Peter’s book Maxi the Lifeguard: The Stormy Protest won The Wilderness Society Environment Award for Children’s Literature, a testament to the powerful combination of his creative storytelling and environmental passion.
With a background in teaching, Peter has also worked extensively in classrooms and school libraries. This hands-on experience has given him valuable insights into the transformative power of visual storytelling for young audiences.
