About
Peter Baldwin is a Sydney-based illustrator, worldbuilder, and primary school teacher with a lifelong passion for drawing and storytelling. His work spans children’s books, educational publishing, and commercial illustration, with a growing focus on character-driven worldbuilding and visual narrative development.
Peter’s illustrations have been published in a number of books, including Lucky with Affirm Press, Granbad with UQP, the Maxi the Lifeguard series with Affirm Press, and the TC series with Scholastic. His illustration practice also extends across posters, comic strips, character design, pamphlets, logos, and educational resources for clients such as The Fluency Fun Series by Little Learners Love Literacy, Little Fox Inc., The Australian Museum, Educational Assessment Australia, and the New South Wales Department of Education.
Before working as an illustrator, Peter began his career in the sciences, working in wildlife conservation education at The Australian Museum and Taronga Zoo. This early experience fostered a deep connection to the natural world, which continues to influence his storytelling, visual themes, and ongoing interest in environmental narratives.
In 2019, Peter’s book Maxi the Lifeguard: The Stormy Protest won The Wilderness Society Environment Award for Children’s Literature, recognising the strength of his storytelling and environmental focus within children’s publishing.
Alongside his illustration work, Peter has extensive experience as a primary school teacher and library educator, giving him a strong understanding of how visual storytelling supports learning, imagination, and engagement in young audiences.
Beyond published work, Peter develops original characters and narrative worlds through his ongoing creative project, plbgreen. This space functions as a visual worldbuilding studio where he explores ideas, sketches concepts, and documents the process of building illustrated stories from early ideas through to developed visual worlds.
